100,000th mark crossed

In February 1998, the Volkswagen Golf 4th generation is the 100,000th car to leave the assembly line of the Bratislava plant.

Great interest in “Bratislava” gearboxes

After only four years, gearbox manufacturing in Bratislava exceeds the million mark. The gearboxes are fitted into vehicles throughout the Volkswagen Group.

A change arrives

Volkswagen Bratislava, s.r.o. enters 1999 as Volkswagen Slovakia, a.s., owned 100% by the Volkswagen Group.

The magical number seven

In the middle of the year, on 1 July 1999, manufacturing of the Volkswagen Polo kicks off. Later on, this model which is produced in two generations and a Cross version, becomes the most produced car in VW SK’s history with 777,000 cars.

New plant in Martin

The first mass-produced components leave the manufacturing line of the newly-opened Martin plant on 29 May 2000. In the first year, the manufacturing of components for gearboxes, axles and steering is performed by three hundred employees.
